Photoshop Curriculum Outline

Curriculum Project Theme: Roy Lichtenstein Digital Painting
General Description of the Curriculum Project: The students will create a Roy Lichtenstein- style digital painting using Photoshop and Wacom tablets, working from a photo of themselves. The Wacom tablets will be used to draw on top of their photos on a separate layer in Photoshop. The students will view Pop Art pieces by Roy Lichtenstein prior to starting their paintings and use the Halftone pattern filter to emulate the comic book style. The students will insert a speech bubble which will say something that is relevant to their painting.
Media Literacy Goals: The students will be able to demonstrate comprehension of the effectiveness of the presentation and treatment of ideas in media texts. The students will view images of artwork by Roy Lichtenstein and have a discussion about the meaning and choice of words used to convey it. The students will demonstrate the ways in which their digital paintings will address their intended purpose and audience.

Detailed Description of Procedures:
Day One:

Introduction of lesson: discuss goal of the project

The students will view examples of Roy Lichtenstein paintings and have a discussion about the meaning of them and the target audience

The students will take a few minutes to brainstorm about an idea

The teacher will take photos of the students

The students will upload their photos into Photoshop
Day Two:

The teacher will demonstrate how to use all of the tools in Photoshop needed to complete the project

The teacher will demonstrate how to use the Wacom tablets and show all the features that are involved

The students will begin working on their digital paintings
Day Three:

The students will continue working on their digital paintings
